Poem: Love is Gravity

Gravity's another word for love
It isn't just a force that pulls you down from up above
It's the longing that you have for someone else
And your need to pull them in and make them part of yourself

Gravity made the stars, you know
It wasn't God; just molecules five billion years ago
One loved another so they merged and grew
And other molecules around them were impressed and loved them, too

And kept on joining til they made the sun, you see
The universe created out of love,
From gravity

Gravity's another word for strong
It's the power that you have when you're together and belong
And the majesty of one great choral voice
'Til everyone around joins in or else is silenced with no choice

Gravity pulled people into tribes
So power and intelligence could grow our crops and lives
And it defined the workings of the brain
And it's only gravity that makes you right and me insane

And you might hate me cause I sometimes make you see
That what you thought was right was a choice---
Just conformity

And I am just a molecule alone
With an unexhausted power to repel
And I'm stuck here in a world that's not my home
With these giants who don't see that I'm in hell

Gravity's the power to support
It pulled us into juries, gave the weak their day in court
And together we made hospitals and schools
And tried our best to turn our highest instincts into rules

Gravity turns people into mobs
But it also makes it possible to each have different jobs
So when you see me please don't just think of a cure
Please look into your heart and ask yourself a little what I'm for

Instead of feeling that I simply shouldn't be
Remember that we're here at the whim
Of gravity
