Parents Sue for Autistic Boy's Services

The parents of an autistic boy are suing the Roanoke County school system because they believe his needs are not being met in his current placement:

The boy, whose ability to communicate is limited to repeating words that are spoken to him, was placed in a general education classroom and received only minimal special instruction, according to the lawsuit.

"Since 2006, this child's parents have tried to secure an appropriate educational program in the public school system for their severely autistic child to no avail," said Hank Bostwick, a Franklin County attorney who filed the lawsuit.

"For children with autism, appropriate interventions in the elementary school years are crucial for their educational development, so time is of the essence for this child."
