Christopher Knowles made autism cool back in the bad old days of the 1970s. He was a teenager living in an institution when his work was discovered by theater artist Robert Wilson, who began collaborating with him.

Knowles' best known work is Einstein on the Beach-- the first opera by Philip Glass.

I am obsessed with Christopher Knowles and his work. My favorite one of his typings is 42 Relationships, which is at the top of this post. He also does paintings and drawings. I created a Pinterest board so that you can look at a lot of his work and see some pictures of him in one place.
