Dumb Celebrity Autism Parents News: Jenny McCarthy and Tommy Hilfiger Edition

It's not that there aren't cool celebrity autism parents-- see Chris Gorham and C.J. Ramone-- it's that the ones who get into the media the most are the ones specialize in publicizing themselves.

And it's nice that Tommy Hilfiger is being open about the fact that his daughter and stepson both have autism.  It would be even nicer if he wasn't reading from an Autism Speaks approved script while doing so:

“The government is not involved in it. People aren’t donating enough money. There’s not enough research,” he said. “There’s no cure. It needs help, so we’ve become involved.”

Unlike Dean, I'm not shocked, dismayed, or angry that Hilfiger is working with Autism Speaks-- Tommy does not have a reputation for being a sensitive guy.

And I wouldn't be surprised at anything Jenny McCarthy did to get her name mentioned somewhere.  It is, however, especially tacky for her to blame her ex-boyfriend Jim Carrey for not seeing her (possibly autistic) son Evan when she hasn't even asked him to:

"I've tried to ask (Jim) numerous times (to see Evan), because my son still asks," McCarthy told Howard Stern on his radio show Monday, adding that Evan told her he missed Carrey "almost weekly."

"I haven't (reached out directly)," she said of trying to get ahold of her ex. "I think that sometimes people need to take a real break from each other.
